The name of this blog is A Film Geeks Thoughts On More Than Just Films and I have yet to talk about any.
I write usually short reviews on the review site Flixster, but I'm sure that if a film has an effect on me I'll feel compelled to write about it at length here.
For me Film is an experience and weather that experience is ridiculous action, bloody horror or dramatic romance I don't mind. As long as there is a decent storyline, good acting, capable direction and it entertains me I'm happy. I'm not and never would want to be a movie snob or think that I know everything there is to know. I enjoy film, I understand it and respect those that are willing to give it their best shot.
Anyway, now I've got that out of the way I thought I'd just post some links to some films that are coming out that I'm seriously looking forward to.
Avatar - Release Date - 17.12.09

I can't believe James Cameron hasn't made a movie since Titanic (a movie the more I watch the more I wish they both drowned!). I wonder how many people are aware that if it weren't for him we wouldn't be seeing the rise of the amazing RealD 3D (his company designed it for this movie). Anyway his new film looks to be a Sci-Fi epic, with the most up to date CGI & 3D effects. Sam Worthington is one of my new favourite actors, he plays the lead in what will be the second of three films in which he has had staring roles in about a year. Terminator Salvation being the first of these three and...
Clash of the Titans being the third - Release Date - 26.03.10
http://www.traileraddict.com/trailer/clash-of-the-titans/trailer
This looks fun and if there's mythology, fighting & Sam Worthington in it I'm there.
Sherlock Holmes – Release Date - 26.12.09
http://www.traileraddict.com/trailer/sherlock-holmes/trailer-c
I wasn't sure about this film, based on the previous trailers, but I have to say I think this one might have won me over. Perhaps not the Holmes we are used to, but looks like a lot of fun.
Kick-Ass - Release Date - 16.04.10 (USA)
http://www.traileraddict.com/trailer/kick-ass/teaser-trailer
Directed by Matthew Vaugn and adapted from the comic book series by Jane Goldman (the team behind the brilliant Stardust) comes this interesting looking movie, originally penned by the co-writer of Wanted Mark Millar. With all the adaptations of comics these days it's nice to have some with a twist in the tale. The twist here being that our super hero doesn't have any powers.
Alice In Wonderland - Release Date - 05.03.10
http://www.traileraddict.com/trailer/alice-in-wonderland/teaser-trailer-b
I've heard the winning about the team of Burton, Depp & Elfman. Well here's what I say it's a winning formula so get used to it. This looks pretty amazing and the girl they chose for Alice looks great.
The Lovely Bones - Release Date - 29.01.10
http://www.traileraddict.com/trailer/the-lovely-bones/trailer
Based on the emotional novel by Alice Seabold and directed by Peter Jackson, with a great cast I don't see how this could go wrong. If you've seen Heavenly Creatures you'll know he isn't afraid to do justice to a story.
The Wolfman - Release Date - 12.02.10
http://www.traileraddict.com/trailer/the-wolfman/trailer-b
This is perhaps one of the least hated-in-advance-remakes of the 1941 classic starring Lon Chaney Jr looks creepy as hell, with a dark brooding atmosphere, plus Benicio Del Toro is creepy looking without even being a werewolf.
A Nightmare on Elm Street - Release Date - 07.05.10
http://www.traileraddict.com/trailer/a-nightmare-on-elm-street/teaser-trailer
Another remake I'm looking forward to (that doesn't happen often). Jackie Earle Haley is a great actor, who managed to pull of Rorschach in Watchmen so I have high hopes for him as the new Freddy.
Toy Story 3D - Release Date - 18.06.10

And I'll end, for now with a kids movie. A child myself when the original came out I'm still a big fan of Pixar and I love the characters in this series and unlike most animation they took their time before doing another film and I'm hoping it will benefit from that.

On the first day of Christmas
Christmas is coming...I know people don't want to hear it, but it's only two months away!
Anyway this year is going to be a thrifty one for me. The current climate of the world means that the old ideas from the time of the Second World War is starting to come back-
MAKE DO AND MEND
Well perhaps not quite like it was then, but the new idea of reduce, re-use, recycle is still a form of the war effort. Not having a job also means not having a lot of money so my new hobby of candle making will be the basis for this years presents. Sorry family!
With that in mind I've been Charity shop shopping and bought many second hand glasses which I plan to make over and make into candles. It's recycling and gives money to charity...I think I should get some points for that.
So the run up to Christmas, for me, starts here and as the run up is my favorite part now that I'm not a kid anymore I'm looking forward to it, no matter what else is going on around me.

Oh wait...
I also went to see Michael McIntyre on Thursday!

This guy is super funny. I love bizarre humor normally (Ross Nobel, Bill Bailey, Eddie Izzard), but Mr McIntyre's humour is observational and very true. It's something you can associate with and see the funny side that you might not have seen before. Plus we didn't miss the last train like coming back from Coldplay. Go see him.

Roll on December...I can't wait to go and see Eddie Izzard for the first time! I've been a fan for such a long time!

Long Live Life
So far I've been as good at doing this blog thing as I am at keeping a diary! It's not like I haven't done anything either, but perhaps it's because I've had a fair bit of disruption in my life of late. That however isn't something I feel I need to blog about.
Anyway what have I done? Well on the 19th of September I went to see a little band called Coldplay!

They were amazing! Seriously! I'm twenty-four now and until this year I had never seen a band live (apart from a Queen tribute band, but I don't really think that counts). In the last year I've seen two; Keane and Coldplay. I guess I should really add White Lies, Girls Aloud, Jay-Z, Katzenjammer and FrankMusic to that list too as they were warm ups for each act.
Anyway the show put on by Coldplay was even more wonderful than seeing Keane in February. I've heard people give Keane a lot of crap (when they've actually heard of them), but they mean a lot to me because their music spoke to me at a time when I needed something to hang on to. So seeing them and hearing all the songs that meant so much to me was just awe inspiring.

But Coldplay...
It was such an experience and one that I would absolutely repeat! The songs, so memorable and meaningful where even better live. If you even just like them and get the chance to see them then do!

My First Blog
It seems a strange idea for everyday people to share their daily thought and lives with one another and yet it seems to have become part of life for a large proportion of the population weather it be by Blog or Twitter or Facebook. I am both a Tweeter and Facebooker, but sometime you need more space to get out what is on your mind so here goes...
A little about me to start with. I love film (which should be fairly obvious), books, being creative, walks in the countryside, rain, nature, sci-fi, fantasy, spending time with family and friends, listening to others problems and trying to give them advice and costumes dramas. There's more, but I can't think of it now.
So I like a lot of things, but for the most part I don't think that I am very much like a lot of people my own age...I like to be different because I spent a long time being like everyone else.
I'm also a little dyslexic, so please forgive any bad spelling and grammar - I try my best.
